Are  you stressed about your child’s reading? The Story Garden can help!

Our Parent Seminar is a series of 4 interactive workshops for parents and caregivers* that will teach you how to instill in your children both love and skill of reading. You’ll gain on-the-spot training in how to use simple, fun activities and loving interactions to see immediate and sustained success in reading. BONUS: You’ll receive a fabulous kit to use at home with your child(ren) so you can start using what you learn right away!

* Please note that these are parent/adult only workshops. We are unable to provide childcare.

Cost: The Story Garden is pleased to announce that there is NO CHARGE for these sessions. (The $99 cost for each participant is being covered by a Parents Reaching Out grant from the Ministry of Education!)

When: Wednesdays, April 5, 12, 19 & 26, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. – noon OR 7:00 – 9:30 p.m.

A shared reading program that connects high school teens with struggling readers in primary grades. The teens are trained to use effective techniques and great literature in a series of one hour sessions, to inspire their young friends while earning volunteer hours necessary for graduation.

Leaders for Reads runs on Saturdays in blocks of 10 week sessions at The Story Garden from 11am – 12pm. Reader registration fee is $30.

ARE YOU A STUDENT LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEER HOURS?

We are looking for teens to be part of our Leaders for Readers program. Time commitment is 2 hr/wk for 10 wks to read with primary students.

Sessions run regularly at The Story Garden in the Sheridan Centre, Mississauga. Please send a cover letter and resume to dreanna@thestorygarden.ca to apply.

This is a fun, easy, and rewarding way to earn 20 + hours towards your volunteer requirement for graduation.

WE ARE ALSO LOOKING FOR READERS

Grade JK – 3 students who need some extra help reading will be paired with a teen leader to mentor and assist them during our Leaders for Readers sessions. A registration form for readers can be downloaded here.
