Leaders for Readers
A one-on-one reading program connecting high school mentors with children in grades K-3. Our teens are trained to use effective techniques and great books in weekly one hour sessions. This program is great for emerging readers, struggling readers, or readers who need to gain confidence and have fun with reading.
Leaders for Readers runs on Saturdays in blocks of 10 week sessions at The Story Garden in the Sheridan Centre, Mississauga, from 11 a.m. – 12 noon. Reader registration fee is $50 (or $40 if registering 2 or more children). We run 3 sessions during the school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Sponsorships available.
Current Session: March 30 - June 1, 2019
ARE YOU A high school STUDENT LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEER HOURS?
We are looking for teens to be part of our Leaders for Readers program. The time commitment is 2 hours every Saturday for 11 weeks. (Leaders start one week before the Readers for training.) Students get to inspire and build reading confidence in their young friends while earning volunteer hours necessary for graduation.
This is a fun and rewarding way to earn 20 + hours towards your volunteer requirement for graduation.
WE ARE ALSO LOOKING FOR READERS
Grade JK – 3 students who need some extra help with reading will be paired with a teen leader to mentor and assist them during our Leaders for Readers sessions. A registration form for readers can be downloaded here.
